The Bible is very clear that we are to put on the armor of God. Why? Because the Bible says it will help us resist the enemy. We are fools to think we can go out the doors of our homes without God’s armor. We might as well walk out in our underwear!
It is simple and not complicated. I encourage you to read up on what each piece of the armor of God means. Then, take time to teach your family! Use props and role play to make it become alive and real to your kiddos. If that’s not your thing, then use pictures! Pictures paint a thousand words, especially to children.
How does the Harty family put on the armor of God each day? We put it on after our circle/prayer time in the morning at the front door of our home. We do the motions to put each piece on, and say it out loud in sync. I have been saying the exact same words since my oldest has been two years old!
“We put on the full armor God. We put on the helmet of salvation, the sword of the spirit, the shield of faith, the breast plate of righteousness, the belt of truth, the shoes of peace, and above all else put on love. We love you Jesus with our whole heart. We worship you together, and protect us while we go to school, Amen.”
Start equipping your family with the armor God that He has provided! Your family needs it, and so does mine!
Ephesians 6:10-18 (NLT)
A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
